If you are concerned with lines and wrinkles around your smile and face, you can benefit from two of the most popular and effective FDA approved wrinkle fighters. BOTOX® and Dermal Filler treatments, such as RESTYLANE® and JUVÉDERM®, provide the final piece to a picture perfect smile. By combining BOTOX® or Filler treatments with your cosmetic dental procedures, we can create the optimal aesthetic outcome for your cosmetic and restorative dental care. Be assured, you will leave with a more beautiful smile and more youthful appearance!
Your face is the frame for any cosmetic and restorative dentistry procedure. If you have a missing tooth restored or receive cosmetic crowns, you will certainly have a brighter, more confident smile. But imagine the dramatic results you could achieve if BOTOX® or Dermal Filler treatments could improve the appearance of the skin around your smile.
With an increasing number of Americans turning to Cosmetic Dentistry and other aesthetic improvements each year, it only stands to reason that several of these treatments will complement and enhance one another. This is certainly the case with Cosmetic Dentistry, BOTOX®, and Dermal Filler treatments. Used in combination, we can enhance your gorgeous smile and help you feel younger, fresher, and more radiant.
BOTOX® is the most popular non-surgical aesthetic procedure in the US with more than 6 million patients receiving the procedure every year. BOTOX® was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in 2002. In one survey, 92 percent of BOTOX® patients reported satisfaction with their treatment. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of misconceptions about the procedure. Many patients worry that they may look unnatural, or perhaps they won’t be able to make a full range of facial expressions. However, when administered correctly, the results are safe, natural, and effective.
How does BOTOX® work?
BOTOX® is injected into the small facial muscles and works by blocking nerve impulses, temporarily relaxing those muscles that underlie and cause wrinkles. You will start to see results anywhere from 24 hours after injection up to 12 days later, with the peak effect about 2-3 weeks following injection. Patients are all unique, but most find that their injections will last about 3-4 months. Our patients generally stick to an “every 3 or 4 months” schedule.
Where is BOTOX® used?
BOTOX® is used to relax the muscles of animation in the face, such as those used in smiling and frowning. It’s usually injected into lines and wrinkles on the forehead, crow’s feet at the corners of the eye, and furrows between the eyebrows.
What are the side effects of BOTOX®?
BOTOX® has a very low occurrence of side effects when used appropriately. Although there are no reports of adverse drug interactions in healthy people, we do recommend that you avoid anti-inflammatory medications, vitamin E, and aspirin for two weeks prior to your BOTOX® treatment to avoid bruising at the injection site. If you regularly take aspirin or blood thinners such as Plavix or Coumadin, please consult with your physician before discontinuing those medications. Other side effects are rare, but may include headaches or eyelid drooping.
Because side effects most commonly occur when Botox is spread into surrounding muscles, we ask you to not rub the injected area for 12 hours after treatment or lie down for three to four hours.
BOTOX® is the brand name of the purified protein manufactured by Allergan and is the most commonly recognized name; however, we also achieve great results with DYSPORT®and XEOMIN®.
Dermal Fillers are an increasingly popular means to help reverse the changes associated with aging. They can be used to restore, correct, or enhance volume, providing you with a more youthful and rested appearance. Dermal Fillers are a safe and effective way to revitalize your overall appearance.
Dermal Fillers made of Hyaluronic acid have revolutionized the treatment of facial aging. These fillers include RESTYLANE®, JUVÉDERM®, and several others. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is present throughout the body. This natural substance gives skin its fullness and elasticity, but over time, its production is diminished.
How long do Dermal Fillers last?
The effects of Dermal Fillers typically last anywhere from six to twelve months, at which point the procedure needs to be repeated.
BOTOX® and Dermal Filler appointments:
BOTOX® and Dermal Filler treatments can be done in our office in conjunction with your dental visit or during a separate appointment. We reserve time in our schedules for all BOTOX® and Dermal Filler appointments and do our best to accommodate last minute or same day appointments. We can also see you during your lunch break, or in the evening on certain days of the week.
One of the many advantages of treatments in our dental office is the use of multiple anesthetic options. Because patient comfort is very important to us, we offer prescription strength numbing cream and ice that can be applied to areas prior to treatments. We also offer a modified dental block for painless injections in sensitive areas.
